Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu has said the government has not imposed any ban on the broadcast of programmes by Ekushey Television (ETV). He was answering to queries from reporters at a press briefing at the Secretariat on Tuesday. BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is confined to her Gulshan offices, on Monday alleged that the government had stopped ETV's broadcasting. Reports from several parts of the country say the channel could not be viewed from Monday. "Ekushey TV's broadcast has not been stopped. We, the authorities, have not taken any such decision. No such order has been given until now," Inu clarified. He also said the government had nothing to do with the channel going off the air in several areas. "We've heard this and will check the matter. The ETV authorities have not sought our intervention yet," he said. About the arrest of ETV Chairman Abdus Salam, Inu said he was held in a case filed by a woman under Pornography Control Act. Salam was taken to Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Detective Branch office after he was arrested in front of the ETV office in the wee hours of Tuesday. ?bdnews24.com
