Section 144 imposed in Rangamati municipal area

RANGAMATI, Jan 10: Rangamati district administration imposed Section 144 in its municipal area from 11:30am on Saturday.
Additional District Magistrate of Saif Uddin Ahmed, confirming the announcement, said the section would be prevalent until further notice.
It may be mentioned that, the Chittagong Hill District Students' Council called blockade programme protesting inauguration of the academic activities of Rangamati Medical College on January 10. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated its operation through a video conference.
On the other hand, at least seven people were injured during the blockade. They were admitted to Rangamati General Hospital. Of the injured, condition of one was stated to be critical. Member of the Parliament Firoza Begum Chinu and former state minister Dipankar Talukder went to the hospital to see the condition of the injured.
Additional police were deployed in the town to avoid any untoward situation. Besides, army personnel are patrolling the town.  A heavy environment has gripped the whole town.
