FARIDPUR, Jan 11: The stolen money of Faridpur branch of Rupali Bank was recovered from a house of an employee of the Bank on Sunday afternoon.
Assistant police super Mohammad Kamruzzaman said Tk 1.22 crore out of 1.57crore was found at the house of Abul Kalam Azad, office assistant of the Bank, at Shibrampur, outskirt of the town.
Earlier on Saturday, a total of Tk 1.57 crore was stolen from the volt of the branch.
Police arrested tow bank staff and 3 members of Ansar for their alleged involvement in the incident. The arrestees are: officer assistant Abul Kalam Azad, Guard Faruque Hossain, and three Ansar members -Lutfar, Rafiq and Ashiqul.
An official of the branch in condition of anonymity said, "We found the volt opened after coming to the office today, first working day of the week. We assumed that more than Tk 1.5 crore has lost."
Khan Shahidul Islam, assistant general manager of the bank, said the officials found the lock of the volt opened when they went to bring money from there on the first working day.
He said police arrested the bank employees and the Ansar members for interrogation as the lock of the volt was unbroken which made the stealing incident mysterious.
Meanwhile, the members of law-enforcing agencies including police visited the spot.
Following the incident, the authorities concerned closed the transaction of bank temporarily.
Syed Mohsinul Haque, officer-in-charge of Kotwali thana, said as the lock of the volt was not broken, the incident of theft is mysterious.
