Curfew in Rangamati withdrawn for 9-hr; resumes afternoon

Rangamati: The curfew, which was earlier withdrew only for three hours, is extended till 5pm.

On the other hand, section 144 to be continued at this time.

Shamsul Arefin, deputy commissioner of Rangamati, announced this around 11am on Monday morning.

Police super Abul Kalam Azad confirmed this to our correspondent. 

After 5pm, the curfew will reinforce for an indefinite period.

Earlier in the morning, the curfew, which was imposed by local administration on Sunday night, has been withdrawn only for three hours from 8am to 11am as some people were confined at some places for sudden announcement of the curfew.

Shamsul Arefin declared the curfew around 7:30pm after violence spread to different parts of the hilly district in sequel to clashes between Pahari Chhatra Parishad and Bangalee settlers including BCL activists.

Police, army and BGB members were deployed in the district to maintain law and order situation.

Tense situation is prevailing in the district.
