SK Sinha new Chief Justice

President Mohammad Abdul Hamid has appointed Appellate Division’s senior judge SK Sinha as the 21st Chief Justice of Bangladesh.

The Law, Justice and Parliamentary affairs ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Monday.

The President in exercise of his power under article 95 (1) of the
constitution made the appointment, said the gazette notification.

The appointment will come into effect on January 17.

Meanwhile, the present Chief Justice Mohammad Mozammel Hossain will retire on January 16, 2015.

Justice Mozammel was replaced former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque on May 18, 2011.

Justice Sinha obtained LLB from Sylhet court in 1974 and enrolled as an advocate of the district court.

He conducted sessions trial cases independently till end of 1977.

Then he joined as an advocate of the High Court and the Appellate Division in 1978 and 1990 respectively.

He also worked with eminent lawyer SR Pal as his junior.

Justice Sinha promoted as judge of the High Court on October 24, 1999 and as judge of the Appellate Division on July 16, 2009.
