7 killed in Tangail road accidents

Tangail : At least seven people were killed and nine others injured in different road accidents in Kalihati and Ghatail upazilas on Tuesday.

In the first accident, a taxicab collided head-on with a sand-laden truck at Sholla in Kalihati upazila at about 7.45 am, leaving four people dead on the spot and five others injured.

Officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge (East) thana Akheruzzaman confirmed the matter.

One of the deceased was identified as taxicab driver Tohidul Islam, 32, of Mirpur-13 in the capital. Identities of the others could not be known immediately.

The injured were sent to Tangail Medical College Hospital.

In another accident on the Bangabandhu Bridge approach road,  a truck hit a CNG-run auto rickshaw, leaving the three-wheeler's passenger Mohammed Ali, 35, of Daupura village in Kalihati upazila dead on the spot.

Yet in another mishap,  a truck hit an ambulance from opposite direction on the Bangabandhu Bridge highway at about 9 am, killing its driver Sirajul Islam, 40, on the spot.

Meanwhile, a rod-laden truck hit a CNG run auto rickshaw from opposite direction at Athardana in Ghatail upazila at about 10 am, leaving a  passenger Lakkhan Chandra Pal, 42, dead on the spot and four others injured, said Ghatail thana OC Mokhlesur Rahman.

The injured were sent to Tangail Medical College Hospital.
