3 drown, 10 hurts in Meghna boat capsize

Narsingdi : Two women and a child drowned and 10 people were injured when a boat capsized in a tributary of the River Meghna in Sadar upazila on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Morsheda Begum, 25, her daughter Suborno, 8, and Sufia Begum, 55.

Sadar thana OC AKM Abul Quashem said a boat with 35 passengers on board sailed for Char Digholdi from Bipin Sahar ghat at about 2:30pm. But, the boat suddenly broke into two pieces in the mid river.

All but two women and a child managed two swim ashore.

Ten injured passengers, hit by the straw made top cover of the boat, were undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital.
They are : Elachi Begum, Sajal, Ferdousi, Sumi, Jyotsna, Mahmuda Morsheda, Mahmuda, Maria and Sufia.

Passengers alleged that the boat sank due to overloading of timber and other goods
