5 cops, student among 14 injured in capital
Blasts, arson, clashes, police firing arrests mark 12th day of blockade

The 12th day of BNP-called countrywide blockade on Saturday again saw a series of bomb explosions, arson and clashes between law enforcers and opposition activists trying to force vehicles off the roads, leaving scores of people injured, including a female student of Jagannath University in the capital.
Five policemen were injured in a petrol bomb attack on their vehicle in the capital's Matsya Bhaban area on Saturday night.
A police van caught fire after miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at it near Matsya Bhaban around 8:40pm, said witnesses and hospital sources.
A policeman sustained burn wounds in the incident and four others were injured while getting down from the vehicle hurriedly.
They were whisked off to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Sultana Diba, 23, a post-graduate student, suffered burn injuries when a Dhaka- bound bus from Comilla that she was on board was set ablaze at 9:45am.
She received primary treatment at Dhaka National Medical College and Hospital, Abani Shankar Kar, Officer-in-Charge of Jatrabari police station said.
Meanwhile, a minibus was set ablaze in capital's Mirpur area around 7:30 on Saturday morning, a Fire Service official said.
Besides, local people held a youth while he was trying to set fire to a bus at Mirpur's Technical intersection on Saturday evening. The mob beat him up and later handed the youth, named Angur, 26, over to police. Miscreants set fire to a bus of Bikalpo Paribahan in front of Dhaka City College in  Dhanmondi around 7:00pm.
Law enforcers detained Dr Rezaul Karim, Ameer of Ramna Thana unit Jamaat-e-Islami, on Saturday evening from his Malibagh Chowdhury Para residence.
Miscreants exploded cocktails at different places of the city on Saturday. Witnesses said that a pair of cocktails went off near UBL Crossing at Paltan intersection while another in front of Kasturi Restaurant at Bijoynagar Saturday noon.
Our Bogra Correspondent said that Town Police fired rubber bullets and teargas canisters during an hour-long clash with the activists of BNP-led 20-party alliance at Matidali, on the outskirts of Bogra town, in the morning. At least 14 leaders and activists of the alliance were detained following the clash.
 Police fired 50 rounds of rubber bullets and five teargas shells to bring the situation under control. However, no one was hurt in the clash.
Police detained at least 14 activists including local BNP leader Shahidul Islam and the Nishindhara Union Parishad chairman, raiding different parts of the town. Meanwhile, blockaders torched a truck on the Rangpur-Dhaka Highway at Jhopgari in Sadar upazila around 12:30pm yesterday.
In Gaibandha, blockaders set fire to a truck at Kanta in Gobindaganj upazila around 1:30am, said Jahidul Haque, Officer-in-Charge of the local police station.
The paramilitary Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 33 kilogrammes of gunpowder - which the blockaders frequently use to set vehicles ablaze -- from a bordering village in Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila.
