Hartal underway in 8 Rajshahi districts

Rajshahi: A 36-hour hartal, called by Bangladesh Nationalist Party, is going on in eight districts of Rajshahi division in protest against the killing of a Chhatra Dal leader during a 'gunfight' in Chapainawabganj.

The shutdown began around 6am. 

Some Islami Chhatra Shibir activists brought out a procession in front of Rajshahi College. They threw cocktail at a car of Rapid Action Battalion.

None was reportedly injured in this incident.

A large number of police have been deployed in the districts.

On Saturday afternoon, Rajshahi division organizing secretary of BNP Haroon-or-Rashid confirmed the hartal call.  

Matiur Rahman,30, a leader of Chhatra Dal, student wing of BNP, was killed at Kansat in Shibganj upazila in a ‘gunfight’ at around 3:30am on Thursday night.
