Prime Minister and Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina today said BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia would have to stand for trial as a "killer" for killing innocent people for her personal interest.

"Begum Zia's trial would be held by treating her as a "killer" since her movement is not for any national issue or public welfare, rather she is trying to save war criminals and herself from the graft cases and protect her spoilt son involved in killing, money laundering and corruption," she said.

Taking part in an unscheduled discussion on the present spate of violence and terrorism resulted in from the BNP-Jamaat backed so-called blockade, Sheikh Hasina said the BNP chief has been killing people under the cover of a movement for her personal interests. "Her trial would be held the way a killer faces trial" she added,

Earlier, Leader of the Opposition Begum Raushan Ershad initiated the discussion drawing attention of the House towards the wholesale killing, anarchy and destructive acts unleashed across the country by the BNP-Jamaat nexus.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the BNP-led 20-party alliance went on rampage in killing innocent people including kids side by side with spreading anarchy and other forms of destructive acts in the name of a so-called movement. "The whole country is now worn out as BNP and its allies are infusing venom into the arteries and veins of our national politics," she said.

The Leader of the House point by point described how the whole nation is being taken into hostage through a meaningless blockade program of the BNP-led 20-part alliance and said BNP is in a sense biting the whole nation through its venomous politics." She urged the people to build a strong resistance against
this party.

In her speech, the Prime Minister showed to the lawmakers the horrific photographs of the victims, who were mercilessly killed by the terrorists of BNP-Jamaat clique during their blockades and hartals over the last couple of days.

In the greater interest of protecting democracy and humanity from the wrath of BNP and its allies, she urged the countrymen to form anti-terrorism and anti-militancy committees in each locality to resist the destructive acts of these parties.

"I call upon all of you to hand over such terrorists and militants to the law enforces. We cannot allow the country to be a den of terrorists and militants again. For this, we want active cooperation of the countrymen," she said.

The Prime Minister said Awami League also staged movement in the past by taking the people with it, but not the way the BNP-Jamaat is doing now. "BNP-Jamaat's movement means kill the people anyway," she said.

Sheikh Hasina continued to describe how the BNP-Jamaat movement took away the lives of sleeping people, pregnant women and female teachers; torching and vandalizing trains, bus, truck, CNG vehicles and uprooting trees and fishplates of rail lines.

"As a matter of fact, Begum Zia is carrying out a massacre across the country, but she must keep in her mind that democracy cannot be established by killing people," the Prime Minister said.

Even during the religious occasions like Biswa Ijtema and Eid-e-Miladunnabi, she said, the BNP-Jamaat clique enforced its blockade and hartal programs not to allow the devout Muslims to perform their prayers smoothly.

The Prime Minister said BNP did a mistake by not participating in the January 5 polls and it must pay for that blunder. "But why the people would pay for the BNP's mistake," she posed a question.

Sheikh Hasina said BNP had tried to take over the country's power through an unconstitutional way by boycotting the polls, but failed to resist the elections. "Forty percent votes were cast in that election," she said.

Out of the anger emanated from BNP's ill-motivated attempt, she said the BNP chief is now taking revenge on the people through killing. "What she does earn by taking the blood of the people?" the Prime Minister said.

Ruling out again the BNP's demand for midterm polls, the Prime Minister asked BNP to get ready for the next election. "Next election would be held on time and for this BNP should take preparation," she said.

Coming down heavily on Khlaeda Zia for her fake claim that she has been confined into her office, Sheikh Hasina said Begum Zia went to her office by taking all preparations including bed, furniture and food as well. "She is not confined, she can go anywhere," Sheikh Hasina said. The Prime Minister said Begum Zia is killing people in one hand and resorting to falsehood to confuse the people on the other.

In this connection, she mentioned Begum Zia's fake telephonic conversation with the BJP chief of India and forged statement of the U.S. Congressmen by the BNP men.

Spelling out her government's various steps for the welfare of the people, Sheikh Hasina said: "We do politics for the common people and we would continue to do whatever is necessary for them."
