The 30th ranked Bangladesh national hockey team will meet strong opponent 22nd ranked Oman at 03:30 pm (Bangladesh time) today (Thursday) in the quarterfinal of Hockey World League round-2 in Singapore. The Red and Green team even now have chance of playing in the semi-final if they can beat the rivals in the meet. Earlier, Bangladesh began the second round of the eight-nation event with a 5-1 defeat against Asian giant Japan in the opener. Although the Bengal boys recovered the status shortly and won the second meet over Mexico by 6-1 margin, they failed to beat the more powerful opponent Poland in the last meet to be placed third of the Pool-B. On the other hand, if the Bengal boys fail to defeat Oman too, then they will have to play fifth-eight place decider where the four losing team of the quarter-finals will take part on January 23. The final meet will be held on January 25. In the remaining three quarterfinals today, Pool-B topper Poland will take on hosts Pool-A bottom placed Singapore while Pool-A topper Malaysia will face Pool-B bottom placed Mexico and Pool-B second place finisher Japan play against Pool-A third place finisher Ukraine.
