2 killed, 20 missing in Gazipur trawler collision

Gazipur : At least two people were killed and 20 went missing in a collision between two trawlers in the confluence of the rivers Brahmaputra and Shitalakhya in Shreepur upazila on Friday.

Local sources said a Boromi-bound trawler sailed from Tekchanpur collided with another trawler bound for Trimohoni in the mid river at Nandiasangun at about 1pm, killing two on the spot. At least 20 passengers are still missing.

The dead were identified as Abdur Rahim, 30, driver of one mechanized boat, and Rahima Khatun, 42, wife of Rahimuddin of Talali Paschimpara under Pagla thana.

Shreepur thana OC Mohsinul Quader, however, said they are not yet confirm about the number of deaths.
