Siri Kannangara, the 70-year-old trained Rheumatologist and an Orthopaedic physician in Sydney is likely to examine the right arm fast-bowler in another fortnight's time.
Speaking exclusively over his mobile on Sunday morning, Dr. Siri Kannangara says, "I have been in touch with the Physiotherapist in NZ who is treating Malinga. As such I do not want him to miss two days of treatment in coming to Sydney. I will see him when the team comes to Sydney and possibly work on Malinga himself, if necessary".
"Malinga had surgery (by Dr. David Young) in Melbourne 17 weeks ago. Now he is in NZ and I have not seen him. Talking to the Australian Physio with the team, he has a good chance. That is why I did not want to get him to Sydney for the two days", he further added.
Interestingly, the Sri Lankan doctor has also treated India's Sachin Tendulkar and several Australian players including Ian Chappell, Rod Marsh, Lillee and mark Waugh.
"It was Chaminda Vaas who asked Sachin Tendulker to come to Sydney for his back pain and advised him 11 years ago", he added.
Viv and Barry Richards, Clive Lloyd and many other ex-players have been successfully treated by Dr. Siri Kannangara.
It is not easy to be all this if one has a brown skin.
Arjuna Ranatunga and Aravinda still keep in touch with him. They were present at doctor's 70th B-day party at the Hilton in Oct last year. The doctor was with them to celebrate victory at the recent election in Colombo, it is learnt here.
