One more arson victim dies

One more person succumbed to his burn injuries on Monday as criminals had hurled a petrol bomb at an auto-rickshaw in Lakshmipur on Sunday during the countrywide hartal amid blockade of the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital's physician Anwar Hossain said, Md Liton, 35, the passenger of the auto-rickshaw was badly burnt in the attack. He died on his way to a Dhaka hospital. About 30 per cent of his windpipe was burnt. The body was then brought back and kept in Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital morgue.
With this the number of people died in last 28 days of the non-stop blockade stood at 45 including 25 from burn injuries. About 50 people have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital's burn unit.
About 150 people became victims of arson attack, vandalism, and violence that have been taking place almost every day since BNP-sponsored nationwide blockade started on January 5.
Three others were burnt as miscreants hurled petrol bombs at an auto- rickshaw near Lakshmipur Mohila College on Sunday night, say police.
The other victims Md Ashik, 28, and Abdul Karim, 27, are undergoing treatment at Lakshmipur Hospital.
Lakshmipur Sadar Police Station's SI Abdul Karim said the attack took place at around 9pm Sunday.
