Jessore: Two activists of 'Jamaat-Shibir' were killed during a 'gunfight' with the members of police at Begaritala in Manirampur upazila early Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Sayeed and Bazlu.

Police claimed that both of them were Jamaat-Shibir men. But the party sources said, they were BNP activists.

Manirampur Thana officer in-charge Mollah Khabir said, they were arrested on Tuesday afternoon.

Acting on their statement, a law enforcers team conducted a drive alongwith the duo around 2:30am.

As the team reached the spot, the associates of Sayeed and Bazlur opened fire on them, forcing the police to fired back that triggered a gunfight.

"Sayeed and Bazlur were caught in the line of fire," OC said.

They were rushed to Health Complex where on-duty doctor declared them dead.

Police recovered a arm, two bullets, 12 petrol bombs and nine cocktails from the spot.
