Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mohammad Kamaruzza-man on Saturday asked his counsels to file a petition with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court seeking  review of its verdict upholding the judgment of the International Crimes Tribunal-2 that had sentenced him to death for committing crimes against humanity.
Talking to reporters at the gate of Dhaka Central Jail after meeting with the death row convict, his counsels said they would file the review petition within 15 days of getting the certified copy of the verdict of the Appellate Division.
Five lawyers entered the jail around 10:40am, said Senior Jail Super of the central jail Forman Ali. They spent about half an hour with Kamaruzzaman and got out of the jail around 11:10am, added Forman Ali.
The lawyers were Advocate Tajul Islam, Advocate Shishir M Monir, Barrister Ihsan A Siddique, Advocate M Moshiul Alam and Advocate Matiur Rahman Akand. Tajul Islam said the Jamaat leader did not look worried at all even after the death warrant was read out to him.
"Kamaruzzaman believes he will be acquitted if justice is ensured because he is innocent," Tajul said, adding: "If the apex court rejects the appeal, then Kamaruzzaman will decide whether he will seek presidential mercy."
