Juba Dal man killed in police-villager clash

DINAJPUR, Feb 28: A Juba Dal activist was shot dead and 15 including mother of the deceased were injured during a clash at Tulsipur village under No. 10 Punatri union in Chirirbandar upazila of the district on Friday at about 3pm.
The deceased was identified as Rezwanur Rahman, 35, son of Habibur Rahman of the village. Of the injured Ambia Begum, 55, Assistant Sub-Inspector (SI) of Detective Branch (DB) of police Mostafizur Rahman, 36, Constable Habibullah, 38, Rabiul Islam, 30, and Jahangir Alam, 28, were admitted to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Locals said, on Friday afternoon a police team led by DB ASI Mostafizur Rahman went to Tulsipur village for arresting Habibur Rahman, 65, president of Ward BNP. When the team was returning along with the arrested, a group of villagers led by Rezwanur Rahman swooped on police and tried to snatch Habibur Rahman, while four policemen were injured at that time. Being attacked, police fired at the villagers, leaving Rezwanur killed on the spot.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chirirbandar police station Anisur Rahman, confirmed the incident.
