Qatar government has intended to recruit 1.5 lakh more Bangladeshi workers this year without migration fee.
Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain made the disclosure at a press briefing at his ministry on Monday.
A 6-member delegation, led by the Minister, visited Qatar on February 23-27.
Mosharraf said, "Qatar government has already approved 50,000 visas for Bangladeshi workers in the last two months and they want to take more workers from Bangladesh. According to their commitment, we would be able to send 1.5 lakh more workers to the country this year."
On the outcome of his 5-day visit to the Gulf country, the Minister said he held a meeting with Qatar's Labour and Social Affairs Minister Dr Abdullah Saleh Mubarak Al Khulaifi. During this meeting, Dr Abdullah expressed his intent to recruit more workers for implementing different development projects ahead of the World Cup 2022.
"They prefer hiring Bangladeshi workers, so they will issue more visas for our workers this year," Mosharraf  added.
Over the migration cost, Mosharraf said, "Usually, it takes Tk3-4 lakh for migration to Qatar, but now workers will be sent to the country at zero cost as the recruiting companies concerned will bear the migration expenses of the workers and the fees of the recruiting agencies."
He said the recruiting companies concerned will inform the government about their requirement through the embassy and then the government will select workers from its database.
Replying to a question, he said the 50,000 workers who have already got visa will be sent to the Gulf country in  the next two to three months.
The government has already created a database of around 20 lakh overseas job-seekers. The workers who have already registered in the database would be chosen for these overseas jobs, the Minister said.
