AL MP MS Akbar passes away

Ruling Awami League MP Professor Dr Mohammad Serajul Akbar (MS Akbar), also chairman of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, breathed his last on Monday at his residence in Dhaka. (Inna lillahe....... Rajeun).
He was 72.
MS Akbar was elected President of Magura district Awami League on Sunday at its triennial council.
In the political life, he was elected as member of the Parliament (National Assembly) for four terms, first for 1996-2001, then for 2001-2006 and 2009 to till to date.
During these terms he served as Chairman and member of a number of parliamentary standing committees.
He was well-known in his constituency as a pleasant personality, an honest and straight-forward person demonstrating leadership in initiating many developmental projects.
According to the parliament secretariat, Akbar was born on March 13, 1944 in a reputed Muslim family in Magura district.
He passed MBBS in 1966 with distinction. He earned higher degrees in paediatric medicine from Edinburgh, Glasgow & Ireland with scholarship from Commonwealth Universities Association UK.
He served in many capacities including as Professor of Child Health at the Institute of Child Health, Director of Dhaka Children's Hospital and as consultant of many well-known health institutions & social organizations.
