RAJSHAHI, Mar 11: District Transport Workers' Union has called an indefinite strike in Rajshahi district from Thursday morning starting from 6:00am. The leaders of District Transport Workers' Union called the strike demanding the withdrawal of Boalia Model Thana Officer-in-Charge Alamgir Hossain and Shah Makhdum Thana Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahaman as they are doing harm to the transport business in various ways. Mahtab Ali, the General Secretary of District Transport Workers' Union, confirmed the matter adding that the officials extorted money from them. Primarily the organisation issued a 72-hour ultimatum to stop this type of irregularity, but if the authorities do not meet their demand, they would go for tougher movement, he added. Mahtab also alleged that the hartal supporters had torched two buses of Hanif Paribahan at Sheroil Bus Terminal on March 1 morning. "But as we went to the police station in this regard, they didn't file our case," he added. Meanwhile, Truck, Lorries and Covered Van Workers' Union President Moinul alleged against Shah Makhdum Thana OC Mizanur Rahaman that two transport workers were arrested by the police on last Monday night and they did torture them. Moinul went there to free them while OC Mizanur demanded a healthy sum of bribe from him.
