RAJSHAHI, Mar 12: The members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 destroyed a total of 1.40lakh kg chemical tainted date molasses, collected in separate drives from Charghat and Bagha upazila, on Thursday evening.
At least three people including one woman awarded six months imprisonment and fined a total of Tk 50,000 by a mobile court as they were involved in producing the adulterate date molasses for a long time.
Mirza Golam Swarar, Company Commander of RAB-5, said that some dishonest men were producing the adulterate date molasses mixing treacle, sugar, Potassium alum (fitkery), colour and flour for a long time in different villages of Charghat and Bagha upazila.
Acting on secret information, they conducted a drive in Pannapara village under Charghat upazila and recovered 8,400kg of adulterated date molasses while they arrested Likhon Khan, 18, and Milon, 19, resident of the upazila.
Later, a mobile court arranged by Deputy Magistrate Jakiul Islam and they got six month imprisonment jail and Tk 50,000 fine, he added.
On the other hand, another team of RAB-5 conducted a drive at Shonadha area under Bagha upazila while they arrested Anjana Begum, 42, resident of the upazila, along with 32,000kg of adulterate date molasses from her factory.
Later, a mobile court was arranged by Bagha Upazila Officer and Deputy Magistrate Badal Chandra Halder and she got six month imprisonment jail and Tk 50,000 fine, he added.
