Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad on Wednesday evening told reporters, “Enough time has been given in the city polls schedule.”
“We’ve received great response through collection and submission of nomination papers from the possible candidates.”
The CEC’s remarks came hours after his meeting with the Citizens’ Committee, headed by former Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Emajuddin Ahamed.
Apart from urging him to extend the submission deadline, the committee had made five other requests.
Ahmad said the committee’s delegation had told him that they were not representing the BNP.
However, the committee during the meeting mentioned the BNP leaders who are accused in different cases and currently behind bars while emphasising on creating a level playing field for the city polls.
