Yesterday (April 1) marked the 96th birth anniversary of multitalented personality Abdul Hye Mashreki. Several socio-cultural organisations arranged a number of events to mark his birth anniversary. Panjeri Sahitya Songothon placed wreaths at the mausoleum of Mashreki at Ishorgonj, Mymensingh. A cultural event and a discussion were also held at the office of the Monthly Jono Proshashon.
On the occasion of his birth anniversary, Poet Abdul Hye Mashreki Research Centre and Agnibina, a Nazrul research centre are going to jointly organise a three-day event from April 25 to April 27 at Bangladesh Shilpaka Academy in the city. The event will feature discussion, recitation, musical soiree and staging of drama. Nazmul Islam Bayati, a famous Jari expert from Jessore and other artistes from different places will perform 'Dukhu Miahr Jari' which is a masterpiece by Abdul Hye Mashreki, based on National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Mashreki was born on April 1, 1919 in Dattapara, Ishorgonj, Mymensingh. He died on December 4 in 1988 at his own residence. His father was Osman Gani Sarker and mother was Rahima Khatun.
Mashreki's notable works are---Rakhalbandu(pala song), Jorina Sundori (pala song), Dal Dhariya Nuyaiya Konna (folk song), Hazrat Abu Bakar (poetry), Dukhu Miahr Jari, Bhatiyali (musical drama and poetry), Obhishopter Bani (poetry), Kulsum (story), Manush o lash (story), Sako (drama), Natu Gayer Kahini (drama), Akash keno Nil (translated work).
