KHULNA, Apr 11: Speakers at a programme here on Saturday have underscored the need for supply of natural gas to the region.
They also said that the completion of Padma Bridge, the long cherished dream of the people of south-western (S-W) region, would boost up the country's total economy.
They also demanded for installation of an airport, supply of natural gas, four-lane Khulna-Mongla Highway and modernization of Mongla Port in the S-W region to earn more foreign exchange.
The speakers were addressing the reception ceremony of Abdul Matlub Ahmad, Chairman of Nitol-Niloy Group, and SM Amzad Hossain, Chairman of South-Bangla Agriculture and Commerce Bank Ltd., and President of the Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters' Association, organized by Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) held at the conference room of KCCI.
Chaired by KCCI president Kazi Aminul Haque, Former vice-President and Directors of FBCCI, Presidents and Directors of different Chambers of Commerce and Industries across the country, businessmen, among others, addressed the function.
Thanking Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for starting construction works of the Padma Bridge, the speakers said on completion of the Bridge, more industries, and factories specially shrimp and cement factories, power plants will be set up in the S-W region thereby raise employment opportunities.
Matlub Ahmed underscored urgent need for economic development of S-W region of the country.
Matlub who is also FBCCI presidential hopeful , said he will play a vital role, if elected president of FBCCI, for development of S-W region.
Amzad Hossain thanked the present government and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for constructing Rupsha Bridge, Daratana Bridge, Abu Naser Specialised Hospital, Abu Naser International Stadium, among others.    ? BSS
