Chittagong: Expressing concern over the role of police and local MPs ahead of the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) polls, city BNP on Sunday demanded that army be deployed one week before the polling day, April 28.
The demand was made at a press conference at city BNP president Amir Khashru Mahmud Chowdhury’s residence in the city.
The press conference was arranged as part of the campaign for BNP-backed mayoral candidate and former CCC mayor Manjur Alam.
BNP vice-chairman Abdullah Al Noman, BNP chairperson’s adviser and chief election agent of Manjur Alam Amir Khashru Mahmud Chowdhury and other senior leaders were present at the meeting.
Alleging that their activists are facing criminal attacks while campaigning for Manjur Alam, Amir Khashru said they are worried that the activists will not be able to carry out mass campaign if the situation remains the same and peaceful election will not be possible.
“For this, we demand that army be deployed seven days ahead of the election,” he said.
