Teachers, students and different socio-cultural organisations on Monday protested the recent sexual assault on women on the Dhaka University campus during the celebrations of Pahela Baishakh on April 14.

Dhaka University Teachers Association (DUTA) gave an ultimatum of seven days to identify the culprits and bring them to book.

Announcing the ultimatum, DUTA President Professor Fariduddin Ahmed made a demand to identify the culprits with the assistance of CCTV and take punitive measures against them.

Bangladesh Chhatra Union formed a human chain from Aparajeyo Bangla to Karzon Hall to protest the sexual assaults on women on the Dhaka University campus.

During celebration of Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year, a section of unruly youths carried out the sexual assaults on women, which waved shock across the country.

Chhatra Union President Hasan Tareq alleged the Dhaka University authorities was trying to divert the incident in a bid to save the culprits.

He also expressed concern as there is no progress in identifying the criminals by the law enforcers through CCTV.

The general students also held a protest rally in front of Social Science Bhaban.

Different socio-cultural organisations including Udichi Shilpi Gosti also protested the incidents.
