Rana Plaza victims' compensation
Tk 108 cr unused under PM's fund : TIB

Alleging lack of transparency and procrastination in distributing compensation money among the Rana Plaza victims, Transparency International of Bangladesh (TIB) has said Tk 108 crore, out of Tk 127 crore, deposited to the Prime Minister’s fund for the victims remained unused.

TIB disclosed this while presenting its findings at a press conference on ‘Steps taken to implement good governance in readymade garment sector: Progress in last one year' in Dhanmondi on Tuesday.

The corruption watchdog, in its report said about US$ 19 million received in the donors’ trust fund from the buyers and other international organizations. Besides, US$ 16 million (approximately Tk 127 croe) were deposited to the PM’s relief and welfare fund. Of the total money collected by the PM’s fund, nearly US$ 14 million (Tk 108 crore) remained unused.

On April 24, 2013, nine-storied Rana Plaza, housing a number of readymade garment factories, collapsed killing 1,138 people and injuring many others.
