Accusing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men of attacking BNP chairperson’s vehicle in the city’s Banglamotor area
with a motive to kill her, BNP on Wednesday demanded a proper trial of the attackers, reports UNB.

“The government is behaving like a mad following BNP’s participation in the city polls…you (journalists) have seen how the golden boys (BCL men) with the direct and indirect patron of law enforcers attacked BNP chairperson’s personal vehicle in a planned way to kill her,” said her adviser Khandaker Mahbub Hossain.

Addressing an emergency press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, he also said, “The attack on Khaleda is an attack on democracy and the country’s 16 crore people. The government must hold a proper trial of the incident.

Mahbub, also the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, warned that people will give a befitting reply if the government fails to try those involved in the attack on Khaleda at Banglamotor.

The BNP chief’s adviser said urged the government to be aware of ensuring Khaleda’s security. Otherwise, he warned the consequences will not be good.

He asked the government to clearly announce before the country’s people whether it wants to re-establish one-party Baksal rule and autocracy obliterating democracy. “If you make your (govt’s) position clear it’ll help us take our own course.”

Mahbub, on behalf of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, urged all the BNP leaders and activists to come out in the field shunning the fear of getting arrested to protect democracy. “The victory of democracy is certain. No autocratic regime could hang onto power against people’s will.”

He also warned the Election Commission that the country’s people will treat it as ‘Mir Jafar’ (traitor) if the commission stigmatises the city polls like the January-5 national one.

Earlier in the day, BNP chairperson’s motorcade came under attack yet again allegedly by ruling party men in the city’s Banglamotor area, leaving at least10 people, including her adviser Abdul Quayum and two personal security staff, injured.

With the fresh one, Khaleda’s motorcade was attacked thrice for the third consecutive day. Khaleda escaped unhurt, but her vehicle’s rear glass got badly damaged.
