Kalakendra in Mohammadpur has organised a solo exhibition titled 'Celebrated Violence -4: Fuzzy Fear', featuring the works of promising artist Moon Rahman. The exhibition, curated by Wakilur Rahman and Kehkasha Sabah, was inaugurated on May 28.
The exhibition focuses on the ever rising spectre of violence and its silent acceptance by sen-tient beings as an unavoidable reality in the modern world. To project art's stance regarding this issue, which is so suffocating a seed that it impedes humans from helping others and at times even from reacting naturally 'Kalakendra' is continuing the exhibition series, which is the fourth in the line.
Moon Rahman was born in Dawlatpur, Feni, in 1975. At one point, she moved to Dhaka in 2000 with her artist husband. Up till that time, she was completely unaware of her artistic tal-ents. Though she has been an art lover from her childhood, she used to spend her married life as a housewife. But the presence of an artist husband ignited her desire to search through images more profoundly. When her husband left for Italy in 2004, she got the opportunity to challenge herself in bringing out her creative potentials. Initially as a secret mission, she started to draw with the leftover printing colors of her husband's studio.
As time passed, her fun times started to turn into a passionate work-out. From 2008, her grasp over matter got more spontaneous and her children started to appreciate them. During those years she also immersed herself in her husband's printmaking techniques. She felt intrigued to apply these in her work and the results catered well for her expectations. Kalakendra first wit-nessed her bold compositions, drawings, uses of fresh colour alongside varied technical aspects in 2013 and was impressed. In such circumstances Kalakendra has selected 30 untitled works of paintings and prints from hundreds of her remarkable productions to merge with its Celebrated Violence concept.
The exhibition will Continue till June 20.
