Experts at an international seminar in the capital have expressed their concern over shrinking of surface water for the purpose of drinking and stressed on immediate measures to address the situation.
Addressing the seminar on drinking water organized jointly by National Environmental Controls Limited of Bangladesh, USA-based Coch and Singapore-based Flagship at a city hotel on Saturday night, they emphasised on installation of effluent treatment plant (ETP) and using electrical coagulation system-ECR to reduce water contamination and reuse of rainwater.
The speakers said everyday water contamination by industrial waste is causing pollution to water bodies (e.g. lake, river, sea, aquifer and groundwater). This form of environmental degradation occurs when pollutants are directly or indirectly discharged into water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds, they observed.
