KHULNA, June 16: Journalists with the leaders and activists of different political and socio-cultural organisations on Tuesday observed a seven-hour token hunger strike on Khulna Press Club premises.
They observed the strike with demand for immediate arrest of the killers, financers and masterminds of journalist Humayun Kabir Balu.
Starting around 10:00am, the strike ended around 5:00pm.
People from all walks of life joined the programme in the morning under the banner of Khulna Working Journalists' Unity (KWJU).
Over 300 journalists from Khulna and Bagerhat districts from print and electronic media and online news portals attended the programme and expressed their solidarity with the demand.
The speakers also sought reinvestigation into the sensational Balu murder case.
They demanded arrest of the masterminds behind Balu murder and trial for the killings of around 25 journalists, including Manik Saha, Sagar Sarwar and Mehrun Runi, in a special tribunal.
The speakers urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to take steps to initiate fresh probe into Balu and Manik murder cases.
