
The convicts were identified as Hasnain, Abdul Mannan, Amzad Hossain, M Isias, M Selim, Rubel and Momotaz Begum.
The tribunal also fined prime accused Hasnain Tk 1 lakh, and in default, to suffer one year more rigorous imprisonment, and the remaining six Tk 50,000 each, in default of which they will have to suffer seven months more rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, accused Hasnain had been harassing, Sharmin Akter, a student of Abi Abdullah College in Doulatkhan upazila.
Later, Hasnain sent a proposal to the father of Sharmin to marry her.
However, Sharmin’s father refused the proposal which angered Hasnain.
On July 13 2014, he forcibly picked up Sharmin from Helipot while she was going to college and kept her confined at an unknown house.
Sharmin, however, fled from the house and returned home.
Later, she was married to a man, which agitated Hasnain and he again abducted Sharmin last August 27.
Following this, Sharmin’s father filed a case under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
After examining all records and witnesses district and session judge AKM Juhurul Alam handed down the verdict.
