Bangladesh and Australia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to help combat money laundering and terror financing.
Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) and the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (AUSTRAC) signed the MoU on Tuesday on the sidelines of the meeting of the Asia Pacific Group (APG) on money laundering, held in Auckland, New Zealand from July 12-17, according to a Bangladesh Bank (BB) press release.
AUSTRAC is the Australia's anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism regulator, and specialist financial intelligence unit.
"The MOU will facilitate cooperation and the exchange of information on money laundering and terror financing between Bangladesh and Australia," BB said.
With signing of the MoU with AUSTRAC, Bangladesh's official cooperation in anti money laundering and terror financing rose to 36 financial intelligence units in different countries.
