Boat capsizes, three missing

MYMENSINGH, July 25: Three persons including two students have gone missing in a boat capsize in the Brahmaputra River near Galakata bazar under Gafargoan upazila on Saturday morning.
Police said missing boat passengers were identified as Sheuly Akhtar 30, wife of Sharafat Miah, Monir Miah 15, a student of class eight and son of Paran Miah of Gafargoan upazila and Munni Akter 14, a student of class seven, daughter of Nurul Islam of Hossainpur upazila under Kishoreganj district.
A small mechanized boat was carrying about 30 persons and was heading for Galakata Bazar from Char Agli in Gafargaon.
The boat sank presumably due to over loading at about 11.00 am, said Badrul Alam Khan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pagla Police Station.
Of the total passengers, three were missing till filing of this report.
Others were rescued by the locals, said OC.
Hearing the cry of the boat passengers, people led by local Panchbagh union parishad Chairman Ahmed Saifus Salehin Safa rescued the drowning passengers first.
