Chandpur: A sexagenarian man has been kept chained for eight days allegedly by his son in their residence at Shashiali village in Faridganj upazila.
Locals said they came to know about the fact on Thursday night after hearing the screams of the old man, Sharafat Ullah, 65, as he was being brutally beaten purportedly by his eldest son, Mohsin, at that time.
Villagers also alleged that both the father and the son had been at loggerhead over the last few months over a family dispute.
As a sequel to that, Mohsin stabbed his father with a sharp weapon a few months ago and later, after recovering from the injury, the father also stabbed the son with a sharp weapon, slicing off two fingers of his right hand.
However, when UNB’s Chandpur correspondent went to the house of Sharafat on Friday to investigate the allegation of keeping the old man chained in the house, the family members claimed they have done so because the old man has gone mad.
The UNB correspondent found that the old man was kept chained at one corner of a room of the house while his wife Monowara and son Mohsin guarding the sexagenarian.
The old man fell sick also due to insufficient meals, the locals further alleged.
Local union parishad chairman Mohsin Ali said Sharafat is not mad at all.
As both the father and the son are bad tempered, the son has kept the father confined, he added.
