The injured policemen are sub-inspector Mohammad Yunus, assistant sub-inspectors Abdul Kalam Azad, Abdul Kalam and Anwar, and constable Halim of the Haimchar Police Station. They were admitted to Haimchar Upazila Health Complex.
Officer-in-charge of the Haimchar Police Station M Wali-ullah Oli said police arrested two people -- Ripon and Billal -- along with six Yaba tablets in the upazila headquarters around 11pm on Monday.
During interrogation, the duo revealed that they bought the contraband pills from drug syndicate kingpin Kana Jasim, 35, of
Tekkandi village.
Later, the law enforcers launched a drive at the house of Kana Jasim in the early hours of Tuesday to arrest him.
However, the accomplices of the drug trader swooped on the policemen while they were returning to the police station after arresting Jasim.
The attackers beat the policemen with locally made weapons and snatched the arrestee.
Two cases were filed in this connection, said the OC.
