Stocks halt 3-day losing streak

Major indices at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) went up breaking a three-day falling streak on Tuesday as investors resumed buying prospective shares, dealers said.
DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, rose by 41.26 points or 0.86 per cent to end at 4,809.27 while the DS30 index, comprising blue chips, rose 13.93 points or 0.76 per cent to close at 1,841.86 and the Shariah Index DSES rose 10.51 points or 0.89 per cent to close at 1,184.32 point.
At the CSE its Selective Categories Index CSCX gained 60.09 points to end at 8,975.25 as losers beat gainers 118 to 100, with 35 issues remained unchanged. The port city bourse traded 12 million shares and mutual fund units with a value of Tk 474 million.
At the DSE the turnover however fell to Tk 5.28 billion, down 13.44 per cent from the previous day's Tk 6.10 billion. The gainers took a lead over the losers as out of 318 issues traded, 158 closed higher, 115 lower and 45 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor. Islami Bank was the day's top turnover leader for the second running session with shares of Tk 203 million changing hands followed by Familytex, Square Pharma, Apex Tannery and Shahjibazar Power Company. Apex Tannery was the day's best performer for the second session in a row, posting a rise of 9.95 per cent while Gemini Sea Food was the day's worst loser, plunging by 5.44 per cent.
