BGB man injured in gunfight with 'Arakan Army' in Bandarban

Bandarban : A member of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) received bullet injuries during an exchange of gunfire with a separatist group of Myanmar at backwoods Baramadak in Thanchi upazila Wednesday morning.

Injured BGB man was identified as Nayek Jakir of  Barakadam BOP. 

Confirming the gun battle, Bolipara BGB sector commander Waliur Rahman said  Arakan Army, an insurgent group of Myanmar, equipped with heavy arms first attacked a BGB patrol team at Baramadak in the Sangu River at about 10am.

Later, they swooped on the Baramadak BGB camp, forcing the paramilitary troop to fire back that triggered the gunfight.

Two teams of BGB and army were sent to the remote spot to rescue the injured BGB man and to keep a close watch on the area.

The gun battle was continuing till 12 noon.

BGB men are kept on high alert on Baramadak frontier.
