The government has distributed 2,05,82,824 agricultural input support cards among the marginal farmers for boosting production, Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury told Parliament on Wednesday.
"The government is helping the farmers by providing fertilizers, seeds, money and other inputs through agricultural input support cards across the country," Matia Chowdhury said so while replying to a treasury bench member Amina Ahmed in the House.
She told that the government has distributed 1,93,24,177 cards among male farmers, while 12,58,647 cards among female farmers to raise agricultural production by supporting marginal and real farmers across the country.
Besides, the Minister said the government has undertaken and implemented various initiatives to ensure food security in the country. Following the government's realistic measures, the ministry fixed production target of rice, wheat and maize at 387.13 lakh metric tonnes (MT) in the fiscal 2014-2015.
Meanwhile, the production of rice, wheat and maize was 345.96 lakh MT in 2009-2010, 360.65 lakh MT in 2010-2011, 368.39 lakh MT in 2011-2012, 372.66 lakh MT in 2012-2013 and 381.74 lakh MT in 2013-2014, she added.
