Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhit on Thursday said the value added tax imposed on the private universities would not be withdrawn.
He, however, said the students will not have to pay it. The university authorities will pay it, the finance minister added.
Criticising the demonstration of the students, Muhit said it is not acceptable that a student who pays around Tk 1,000 every day, will not be able to pay 7.5 percent vat.
The government has imposed 7.5 vat on tuition fees of the students of private universities.
Protesting the government's decision, the students have been demonstrating to withdraw the decision.
