The mobile operators have been given 15 days timeline to verify information of existing connections with the National Identification Database of Election Commission. Tarana Halim, State Minister for Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology, shared detail about the process with The Daily Observer on Monday. The government has started the especial drive to re-register around thirteen crore of mobile connections of six mobile operators on Sunday. The subscribers will get notifications for re-registrations after completing the verification connection profile for first phase. In the first step of the drive, on Sunday, the six operators have submitted a selected number of profiles of subscribers to the National Identification Database of Election Commission for verification of the information of subscribers. Tarana said, "Government starts the initiative to make an insect- free society. As we found in our recent experience, mobile phone has become a source of all kinds of crimes including financial scam, illegal drug business, and mugging in the country." "Besides, the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), an illegal telephony method will be stopped through the fresh registration process. For VoIP, we lose a huge amount of revenue every year," Tarana said. The State Minister said there is no problem to verify profiles at all as there is introduced online verification here. "We have given the instruction to the mobile operators to verify the registration within 15 days," she said "The Election Commission has completed the verification of the subscribers' profiles which have been submitted to the commission up to Sunday," Tarana said.
