GAIBANDHA, Oct 1: A day-long orientation on 'Nutrition in Emergency' for the members of District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) was held at the conference room of district collectorate building here on Wednesday.
With the financial support of UNICEF, Action Contre La Faim (ACF), Bangladesh Mission, organised the programme in cooperation with district Relief and Rehabilitation Office under the Directorate of Disaster Management, office sources said.
With Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Abdus Samad in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by Additional DC (General) M. Shamsul Azam, Civil Surgeon Dr. Nirmalendu Chowdhury, Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension AKM Ruhul Amin, Livestock Officer Abdul Latif, Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Habibur Rahman, Acting Information Officer Sabiha Akter Lucky and Journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.
Earlier, a key-note paper on the theme was presented by Nutrition Support Officer, CS Office, Mohammad Kamruzzaman while the programme was conducted by M. Rayhan Mostak, deputy programme manager- capacity building, ACF.
CS Dr. Nirmalendu Chowdhury highlighted an overview on nutrition situation in Bangladesh and said thousands of people are affected with infectious diseases during the emergencies for want of food and pure drinking water.
The responsibilities of DDMC were also discussed elaborately at the time of emergencies and pre- and post-period.
Several recommendations were also adopted to ensure the nutrition for the victims during the emergencies like flood, extreme temperature, landslide, river erosion, earthquake and storm.
