Progotishil Chhatra Jote, a platform of the left-leaning student bodies of Jahangirnagar University (JU), observed a strike on the campus on Wednesday to press home their four-point demand including retake of medical admission tests.
Around 50 students under the banner 'Progotishil Chhatra Jote and Samrajyobirodhi Chhatro Oikkya' held a protest rally at the varsity's Transport area and blocked the road. Parading through the main streets on the campus, the rally ended at Social Science Faculty building.
Later, they locked the main entrance of New Arts and Humanities Faculty.
JU unit Somajtantrik Chhatra front Vice-President Masuk Helal Anik said that they had to call the strike as the government did not pay attention to the medical aspirants' logical demands.
Expressing solidarity with the admission-seekers, he said that the leftist student organisations would declare tougher movements if government does not take any effective measures to meet their demands.
Other demands of the students include prevention of question paper leak, assurance of punishment for culprits involved in forgery in admission tests and also punishment for the police members involved in assaulting the admission-seekers.
