SATKHIRA, Oct 9: A man was killed and five others were injured in a rival clash over occupying a shrimp enclosure at Kholpetua village under Shyamnagar upazila here on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Safiqul Islam, 38, of the village.
Masudul Alam, chairman of Gabura union parishad, said a long-standing feud was going on between Safiqul Islam and Lokman Ali over a shrimp enclosure at the village. On Wednesday at 10am, Lokman and his men tried to occupy the land; but a clash ensued between the groups who used lethal weapons, leaving six including Safiqul critically injured.
The injured were admitted to Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex where Safiqul died at midnight.
Enamul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shyamnagar Police Station, said, "So far we arrested nine men in this connection. Security measures have also been tightened at the spot to avert any further violence."
A case was filed, the OC added.
