M Nizam Uddin, a Jatiya Press Club member and a consultant editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), died at a hospital in Canada on Wednesday. He was 69.

Nizam, who had been undergoing treatment for cancer at Toronto Hospital, breathed his last on Wednesday night, said a Jatiya Press Club press release on Thursday.

Nizam, also former chief reporter of the Bangladesh Observer, left behind his wife, two sons and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

Born in Noakhali’s Companyganj, Nizam obtained his master’s degree from Dhaka University in 1970. He started his career in journalism through joining now-defunct The Daily Morning News the same year.

Later, he joined the Bangladesh Observer and worked for the daily for a few decades.

Nizam had been working as a consultant editor of the official news agency BSS until his death.

The journalist will be buried in Toronto after a namaz-e-janaza on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, Jatiya Press Club president Shafiqur Rahman and general secretary Qamrul Islam Chowdhury expressed their deep shock at his death.

They also conveyed their profound sympathies to Nizam’s bereaved family members.
