Nirapad Sarak Chai (NSC) observed Nirapad Sarak Dibash (Safe Road Day) in the country on Thursday with a call to make Bangladesh free from road accidents.
GAIBANDHA: Marking the day, the NSC, district unit, chalked out elaborate programmes in cooperation with
WALTON.
In the morning, a colourful rally paraded through the town streets. Later, a human chain was formed in front of Asaduzzaman Market of the town from 11 am to 12 noon.
The human was addressed, among others, by General Secretary of district Sports Association Advocate Shah Masud Jahangir Kabir Milan, Assistant Secretary Mridul Mostafi Jhantu, Advocate Anis Mostafa Toton, members of district NSC Tamzidur Rahman Tuhin and Nahid Hasan Chowdhury and Journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.
The speakers, in their speeches, said accidents are taking place in the country frequently due to reckless driving by the motor drivers, especially trucks and passenger buses, creating untold sufferings for the victims' family members.
In this context, they urged all drivers to be cautious and more serious in the case of driving their vehicles on the roads so that no accident took place.
Rezia Akter Beauty, member secretary of NSC, district unit, said on October 22, 1993 Jahanara Begum, wife of film actor Ilias Kanchon and his two children were killed in a tragic road accident.
Since then, the day is being celebrated in the country aimed at creating much awareness among the people about road accident in the banner of NSC formed at the initiative of Ilias Kanchon, she added.
A large number of people including the members of the NSC here and social workers participated in the programmes.
KISHOREGANJ: In this connection, a colourful rally was held under the auspices of different social and cultural organisations. The procession paraded the roads of the town with colour festoons and posters. The procession ended at the foot of the Central Shahid Minar at Gurudayal Government College.
Md. Matiur Rahman Bhuiyan, president, Zila Nirapad Sarak Chai, presided over the meeting that was held after the rally. ASP Circle Hossainpur Md. Jamal Uddin and Firozuddin Bhuiyan, manager, Agrani Bank in Kishoreganj, spoke, among others, on the occasion.
