Host Chittagong Abahani confirmed the final after eliminating Afghan club De Spin Ghar Bazan FC by 3-1 margin in the first semi-final match of the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup football tournament on Tuesday at the MA Aziz Stadium in the port city.
It was a vital match for the port-city club. They justified them after confirming the final as it would be so uncomfortable to not getting chance to the final of such an event of which they are the organisers.
Highly midfield-packed De Spin Ghar Bazan fielded four defenders, five midfielders and single striker in against to Chittagong Abahani's four defenders, two midfielders and five strikers in the match.
The Chittagong outfits were very close to went ahead in the ninth minute of the match following a combined attack. Striker Eleta Kingsley Oshiokha curved a shot towards the post which Afghan custodian fisted back after which striker Zahid Hasan Ameli took another shot which was also bounced off a defender and midfielder Zahid Hossain put another futile effort then.
However, the host successful took the lead in the 24th minute from another combined effort. Prominent striker Ameli headed on a corner shot to midfielder Yoko Steve Thomas who headed down the ball into the post.
Chittagong Sky-blues could double the lead in the 44th minute as Zahid Hossain curved a shot and opponent custodian saved the home for a corner.
After the breather, striker Eleta Kingsley scored the second goal for the winner in the 58th minute and scored the third goal and his second in the 89th minute of the match and sealed the victory.
Before that the Chittagong boys consumed an own goal though.
Striker Eleta Kingsley Oshiokha was adjusted the man of the match.
Earlier, the Chittagong boys began the tournament with a 2-1 defeat against East Bengal, they satisfyingly returned in the event with a 1-0 win over the traditional Sky-blues, Dhaka Abahani in the second match and with a 4-2 win over Karachi Electric in the last match, they appeared group runner-up and moved to the semis.
De Spin Ghar Bazan are the unbeaten champions of the Group-A, who began the tournament with a 1-0 win over Dhaka Mohammedan in the first group meet. Yet the Afghan boys were held by the Kolkata Mohammedan by 3-3 margin in the second match, they overpowered Solid FC in the last match by 3-1 margin and confirmed the semi-final.
Now, the winner of today's (Wednesday) semi-final match between East Bengal of Kolkata and Dhaka Mohammedan will face Chittagong Abahani in the final on Friday at the same venue.
