Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said on Wednesday that former ward councillor of Dhaka City Corporation and BNP leader MA Quaiyum and some other politicians are on the Tavella murder suspects' list. A day earlier Kamal made a definitive statement that Quaiyum ordered the murder.
The minister came up with the softer statement after a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Law and Order held on Wednesday at the Home Ministry conference room in Secretariat. Committee chief Industry Minister Amir Hossain Amu chaired the meeting.
After the meeting, Home Minister Kamal said that not only the godfather (boro bhai), several politicians are involved in the Casere Tavella murder. The suspected accused including Quaiyum would be arrested soon.
After the meeting, Amir Hossain Amu said the meeting discussed law and order situation and prevention of militant financing in the country. The meeting expressed its satisfaction as the law enforcing agencies have controlled the situation smoothly.
"The law enforcement agencies are keeping vigilance on law and order situation. Nobody would be allowed to deteriorate the law and order in the country. The persons financing militancy and terrorism would not be spared. They would be prevented strictly," he added.
He said the government is in a position of 'zero tolerance' to misuse of drugs. The law enforcers have been instructed to take necessary steps against the drugs paddlers. They will start a month-long anti-drug drive from January 1 next year.
