Publisher Dipan hacked to death

Within hours of attack on a publisher and two bloggers, unidentified assailants hacked Jagriti Prokashoni publisher Faysal Arefin Dipan to death at Aziz Super Market in the capital on Saturday evening.

Dipan-- also a publisher of slain blogger-writer Avijit Roy's book 'Biswasher Virus'-- was hacked to death at about 6:15pm.

Father of a son and a daughter, Dipan was the only son of Dhaka University Professor Abul Kashem Fazlul Haque.

Abu Bakar Siddique, officer in-charge of Shahbagh police station, said police rushed to the spot immediately after the incident.

Inspector Mojammel Haque of Shahbagh police said critically injured Dipan was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead.

Blogger Mahmududl Haque Munshi Bandhan said the assailants attacked Dipan with sharp weapon.

Earlier in the afternoon, three bloggers, including the publisher of a book of Avijit Roy, came under criminal attack at Lalmatia in the capital.

Police said assailants stormed into "Shuddhaswar Prokashona, a publishing house, at house 8/13 in block- C of Lalmatia at about 3pm and hacked its publisher Ahmedur Rashid Tutul, a close friend of blogger Avijit.

They also hacked Sudeep Kumar alias Randeepok Basu Ghosh and shot Tareque Rahim.

On February, 2015, Abhijit Roy was hacked to death at TSC during Ekushe Book Fair.
