The 10th Jatiya Sangsad on the first day of the 8th session on Sunday unanimously adopted obituary references on the death of sitting Member of Parliament and Minister Syed Mohsin Ali, former lawmakers and MNA, politicians, noted personalities, crane accident and stampede victims in Saudi Arabia, earthquake victims in Afghanistan and Pakistan, victims of Russian aircraft crash in Egypt and other victims.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the obituary references separately with brief resumes on those who died since prorogation of the 7th session of the current Jatiya Sangsad.
The speaker paid her deep respect to the lawmaker of the 10th Jatiya Sangsad , a valiant freedom fighter and minister Syed Mohsin Ali, former lawmakers Miah M Monsur Ali and KJ Hamida Khanam and former Member of National Assembly Advocate Alhaj M Anisur Rahman. She also paid rich tribute to Sylhet District Awami League president and Zila Parisad Administrator Abduz Zahir Chowdhury Sufian, language heroes Colonel (retd) Sharfuddin Ahmad (SD Ahmad) and renowned writer of a song related to Liberation War Noim Gowher.
The Speaker expressed deep shock at the death of persons in a crane crash in Macca and stampede at Mina in Saudi Arabia during the Holy Hajj this year.
Besides, Dr Shirin also expressed her shock at the death of peoples in an earthquake in Afghanistan and Pakistan, Russian aircraft crash in Egypt, publisher Faiysal Arefin Dipon and other road accident home and abroad.
The JS conveyed deep sympathy to the members of the bereaved families and prayed for the lasting peace of their departed souls. Members of the parliament observed a one-minute silence in the House as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
Afterwards, a munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the deceased. Lawmaker AKMA Awal Saidur Rahman conducted the munajat.
While participating in the discussion on Syed Mohsin Ali, Leader of the House and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid rich tribute to his memory terming him as a dedicated leader of the masses.
Sheikh Hasina said Mohsin Ali led Awami League, Bangladesh Chhatra League and Awami Jubo League from various positions at the grassroots level, adding, "Mohsin Ali was not a politician but also a social worker in the country."
"Syed Mohsin Ali performed his duty sincerely and he was committed for well-being of the common people. He was a regular singer of Bangladesh Betar and also a collector of latest songs especially English songs," the Prime Minister said.
Besides, Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmad, Chief Whip ASM Feroz, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Suranjit Sengupta, Moin Uddin Khan Badal, Vice Principal Abdus Shahid, state minister for finance and planning MA Mannan, state minister for social welfare Promod Mankin, Advocate Abu Zahir, Kazi Feroz Rashid, Rustom Ali Farazi, Habibe Millat, Amatul Kibria Keya Chowdhury and Haji Mohammad Selim.
The Deputy Leader expressed her deep shock at the death of Syed Mohsin Ali and conveyed her deep sympathy to the bereaved family members and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
She recalled Mohsin's contribution and said that Mohsin was a real friend of Awami League, who led the party at various positions in the district.
